The contents rltchie this book are clearly designed to fit in the developer’s head, not necessarily in a single reading, but as one references the book and reads individual chapters once more. Adopted as the definitive bible of C this harks back to the good old days of real seat-of-your-pants programming BQE before quiche eaters so is thankfully devoid of the dreadful mess that object oriented programming made of this most simplistically elegant of programming languages.

For example, heavy use of pointers and the possibility to do pointer arithmetic leads to operations on parts of strings to be done in place, instead of splitting them and copying memory in the process.

You can circle back to this one later if you’re really hooked. Gitchie book together with Kochan helped me learn C, which quickly became my favorite programming language and remained so for many years.
