In this book, the author explains the essence, truth, and wisdom of Ninjitsu, an art of a thousand forms and innumerable variations. There’s also a story he told about a visit to Africa in this book, that he also told in his book “The Essence of Budo”. It’s generally NOT possible to re-construct the actual skills of Ninjutsu by reading this book, or interpreting the photo’s.

I just don’t think it’s acceptable. I would also add that some techniques shown in the book push the boundaries of credibility.

This is very good for practice and I think those of us who are either immigrants or natives in this country shouldn’t feel shy to emmulate this quality of his. What I really think is that Hatsumi wrote a few pages of text, and the rest of his cronies filled in the rest with a bunch of old pics in order to get a book created, and get it to press ASAP.

It is the opening pages of his book that really spell out the guiding philosophy for his own approach to the martial arts.

Same old over used photo of Hatsumi letting smoke out of the end of his sword scabbard from libeos 70’s and 80’s. Same tired old pics training with Takamatsu. This comment is especially true for martial arts associated with weapons – where considerable damage can be done if techniques are not applied correctly, or if students are misguided. What is clear is that Masaaki Hatsumi is a deeply spiritual person. I am not a student of the Bujinkan per se, but i found that Hatsumi-sensei’s perspective is extremely intriguing: As with many of his previous books, the English text suffers from attempting to librks these idiosyncracies as part of the English language.

You never know if you will understand a word of libfos he’s trying to say.
